1. PROVEN, EVIDENCE-BASED METHODS
We utilize explicit, systematic curriculum that covers the full foundation of reading, one skill at a time. Students working through reading difficulties or disabilities do not need homework help or “tutoring.” They need instruction to build a deeper understanding and application of reading skills.
Orton-Gillingham
OG uses multisensory instruction to build strong reading and spelling skills. Students actively engage with each lesson through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. These activities strengthen long-term memory of skills, leading to fluent, confident readers.
Lindamood-Bell
LiPS addresses the underlying cause of many students’ reading difficulties - phonological awareness. Students learn how sounds work through explicit instruction in articulation, blending, and segmenting. This builds the foundation for reading and spelling.
SJRR Foundations
Utilizing their master’s degrees in Special Education and Reading Disabilities, the Laverys have developed countless resources to promote the greatest learning gains. Videos, games, lesson guides, word sorts, iPad app activities, and numerous other resources have been created and are only found at SJRR.

At St. Johns Reading Room, students are paired with a consistent teacher for every session. This consistent student-teacher pairing allows trust, confidence, and meaningful connections to grow. Our teachers know our students deeply. They know their successes, their struggles, and how to bring the best out of them in every session.

Session Debrief
Following each session, our teacher will call you back to the classroom for a 5-minute debrief. You are informed every step of the way of your child’s progress. Your child’s teacher will share successes, challenges, and recommendations in-between sessions to reinforce their learning.
Progress Monitoring
Teachers are continuously monitoring students’ progress across reading and spelling tasks each session. We keep you informed with quarterly progress monitoring charts and updated data after each unit, giving you a clear picture of your child’s growth and progress.
at-home resources
Our specialized SJRR Foundations curriculum includes numerous at-home resources to promote mastery of material. Books, passages, games, videos, iPad app, and other resources are all aligned to the exact skill your child is learning. Each supports the exact skills they are learning.

Speak with our expert reading interventionists during a free 15-minute phone consultation. Share about your child’s needs, learn about our approach, and get all of your questions answered.
We’ll walk you through what to expect and help determine if St. Johns Reading Room is the right fit for your child.
Reading evaluation
Our one-on-one initial evaluation is designed to assess your child’s phonological awareness, decoding, spelling, fluency, and sight words knowledge. This comprehensive assessment helps us identify strengths and areas of need, and determine if targeted intervention is recommended based on grade-level expectations.
Parent Data
Meeting
We will review your child’s evaluation results, explain how they are developing as a reader, and discuss the process of becoming a reader. You will be provided data graphs and evaluation report to equip you to make an informed decision. Once the Parent Data Meeting is complete, your child is eligible for enrollment!
