  • Unfortunately, most children do not “grow out” of the difficulties they experience. As time passes, your child may experience frustration mastering grade-level skills. According to Literacy Project Foundation, “A child is 90% likely to remain a poor reader at the end of the fourth grade if the child is a poor reader at the end of first grade.” There is plenty of reason for hope, however. Early intervention for struggling readers has shown to be crucial and beneficial.

    Our Evaluation and Parent Data Meeting will provide you with deep insight into your child’s current reading abilities, the reading process, and whether your child is a candidate for intervention at St. Johns Reading Room. 

  • One in five students is affected by dyslexia or other reading disabilities. Our multi-sensory, evidence-based program is designed to help all students, regardless of whether the child has a disability.

    You may consider bringing your child for a 1-on-1 Reading Evaluation with one of our reading specialists. The evaluation will provide information on your child’s current abilities as well as recommendations for next steps.

  • Our program incorporates strategies and interventions that have proven to be successful across a wide-range of learners. St. Johns Reading Room uses instructional methods from LiPS, Orton-Gillingham, and UFLI that address reading difficulties at the foundational level. If your child’s struggle is primarily reading words and sentences, this program is designed to meet those needs.

  • The first step is a free 15-minute phone consultation with one of our reading specialists. During this conversation we will be able to answer any questions you may have and discuss all aspects of the program to determine if St. Johns Reading Room is the right fit for you and your child.

  • Intensive Reading Intervention for students who are struggling with the ability to read and spell. We teach phonological awareness and phonics to support students’ ability to decode words (read) and encode words (spell), with the goal of reaching fluency.

    Beginning August 2026, SJRR is offering homeschool co-ops. These co-op groups are designed to teach the full reading block for homeschool families. Groups are limited to four students per group and meet two hour blocks twice each week.

  • Students who demonstrate difficulty with foundational reading and spelling skills. This includes students with or without reading disabilities. We specialize in teaching students with dyslexia but also support students with ADHD, auditory processing disorder (APD), autism, and speech and language disorders.

    This also includes all ages from kindergarten through high school. Often our middle school and high school students are the ones who show the quickest gains and fastest progress through the program.

  • We utilize a blend of Orton-Gillingham and the Lindamood-Bell programs, along with numerous supplemental materials designed to create a fully comprehensive, multi-sensory, engaging program.

  • St. Johns Reading Room is located at 136 Roberts Village Court, Unit 1201 in Fruit Cove, FL 32259.

    All evaluations, parent data meetings, and reading sessions are held at this location.

    1-on-1 intervention sessions are offered at the following times:

    • 1:00 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:30 PM, 4:30 PM, 5:30 PM, and 6:30 PM.

    Homeschool Co-ops are offered:

    • Mondays/Wednesdays 8 AM - 10 AM

    • Mondays/Wednesdays 10:15 AM - 12:15 PM

    • Tuesdays/Thursdays 8 AM - 10 AM

    • Thursdays 10:15 AM - 12:15 PM / Fridays 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

  • Yes! St. Johns Reading Room is an approved, direct-pay provider through Step Up for Students. Your child must already be approved and funds must be in his/her Step Up account in order to be used. 

  • Please contact St. Johns Reading Room for current hourly rates and length of treatment specific to your child’s needs.

  • Each individual session is 50 minutes long with student and teacher, followed by a 5-minute debrief with whoever is picking up.

    For length of intervention, exact duration various depending on multiple factors (age of child, degree of deficits, frequency of treatment). A full intervention usually takes 12+ months to catch up multiple grade levels. The goal is to remediate the full foundation of reading to bring your child up to grade-level expectations, and it is common for children to make years of gain in this time period.

    St. Johns Reading Room is more than homework help or quick letter grade boosting. We teach your child how to read following our specialized intervention curriculum.

  • Reading only improves through practice. While there will not be any graded assignments, St. Johns Reading Room highly values the impact the parents can have by practicing material at home. All materials needed for this practice will be provided to you, and teachers will specify the exact activity to complete in between sessions. This may include books, videos, games, or other hands-on activities.

    Students earn rewards through completing homework activities, and often are motivated and excited to do so. It is common for kids to look forward to our game-based, interactive homework activities.

  • Unfortunately, no. Despite how brain-based and scientific reading intervention is, insurance providers do not see reading intervention as a medical expense.
